The advantages of getting a root canal

When it comes to a root canal, patients have misunderstood it and carry negative connotations because few really understand what the treatment means. When the tooth has been decayed, cracked or eaten up by bacteria, the diseased tissue has to be removed and the tooth has to be cleaned in order to protect it. The procedure is normally performed in order to protect the smile of the patient.

There are many benefits you can enjoy after getting a root canal.   

It is a simple procedure

Even if many people believe otherwise, root canal is a simple procedure since it is not too invasive or complex. In some cases, having a root canal is the same as getting the dental filling put in place. The doctor will start by giving you an anesthesia so that you can be relaxed and comfortable. The next thing is to make a hole in the tooth so that the dentist can access the pulp and get rid of it. After cleaning the tooth, your dentist will seal that small hole and will place a dental crown on it to protect it.   

It will relieve toothache

Suffering from an infected pulp is not fun since the problem may cause:

  • Mild or severe toothache which may turn to be intermittent or chronic
  • Foul smell or taste on the affected tooth
  • Tenderness
  • Fever
  • Swelling at the surrounding gum or jaw tissue
  • Trouble with chewing or opening your mouth

The canal therapy will address all such issues and it will help in regaining comfort as well as peace of mind. Root canal therapy may save the diseased tooth so that it does not have to be extracted.  

When it is not treated, pulp infection can destabilize the position of the tooth in your jaw and it will deteriorate the basic structure. This may make the tooth to fall out or it may need an extraction. Many patients may prefer to have the root canal therapy if they do not want to live with a gap in their smile and it can require advanced restoration treatment like dental implants. Other benefits include improving how your tooth appears, enhancing your oral well-being and general health.
