How to Get Rid of Bad Breath: Tips by the Expert Dentist of Maryland

Bad breath has many different causes. While morning breath is common for everyone, excessive bacteria, dry mouth, poor health, and certain medications can cause breath to become rather obnoxious. Brushing your teeth and an occasional rinse with an ADA-approved mouthwash will clear up your bad breath rather quickly. However, it is strongly recommended that you visit a dentist to find out what’s causing your bad breath.

But don’t be embarrassed by bad breath! Here are some simple tips shared by Allen Gotora, an expert dentist of Silver Spring, Maryland that will help you get rid of bad breath:

Stay Hydrated

A dry mouth is one of the most common causes of bad breath. Sipping water throughout the day will keep the tissues moist and prevent dry mouth. Dry mouth is often caused by certain medications so you might want to look at the side effects of any prescriptions you take on a regular basis.

Brush Your Teeth Every Morning

Brushing your teeth every morning gets rid of all the bacteria that has built up overnight. It’s the best way to start your day with a fresh mouth and a big smile. Brush your teeth properly and use mouthwash to get rid of bad breath.

Chew Gum

If you’re at work, it can be hard to find time to brush your teeth or use mouthwash. Chewing gum keeps your mouth hydrated and your breath fresh. Gum also helps to collect debris that may be stuck on the teeth after a meal. This works wonders at hindering the growth of bacteria.

Feeling Under the Weather? Visit Your Dentist!

Bad breath can also be an indicator that something is wrong with your health. Sinus infections, tonsillitis, and even chronic illnesses or cancer can all cause bad breath. If you are starting to feel under the weather and have noticed that your breath has gone worse, schedule a dentist appointment. You will get the answers you need and find out what is causing the problem.

It’s essential that you see your dentist twice a year. They can help you keep your bad breath under control. Call us at (301) 754-1900 (White Oak Office) or 301- 853-1567 (Hyattsville Office) to schedule an appointment.
