SMILE WHILE YOU STILL HAVE TEETH BUT WHAT IF YOUR TEETH ARE CROOKED?

Crooked teeth or malocclusion is a common phenomenon which can be seen in adults and children as young as 7        years of age.

But is it possible to take your child to the dentist at such a young age?

The answer is yes. In fact children should be taken to the dentist as soon as their first tooth erupts in the oral                cavity.

This is very important and a preventive step to avoid crooked teeth because we can guide the eruption of teeth and          help arch growth as well.

      COMMON CAUSES

Jaw size has gradually reduced over a period of time due to evolution of and therefore there is less space available         for teeth to erupt straight.

      HABITS

  • TONGUE THRUSTING
  • MOUTH BREATHING
  • THUMB SUCKING
  • MASOCHISTIC HABITS LIKE PENCIL CHEWING, etc
  • DURING ADOLESCENCE, WISDOM TOOTH ERRUPTION CAN CAUSE CROOKED TEETH

Why you should treat crooked teeth and not leave it unattended?

      1 . DIFFICULTY IN BRUSHING

Due to wrongly positioned teeth, bristles do not reach all the surfaces of the teeth which Need to be cleaned and           may eventually cause tooth decay.

  1. GUM DISEASES

Accumulation of plaque leads to swelling and bleeding of gums and other gum

      related problems.

  1. INCREASE IN RISK OF TOOTH INJURIES

For eg. Incorrectly position teeth are more prone to injuries for eg protruding front teeth might get injured while               playing

  1. DIFFICULTY IN CHEWING FOOD

Chewing of food is hampered due to incorrect positioning of teeth which may cause digestion problems.

  1. BAD BREATH

Crooked teeth might look bad but smell even worse which is caused by the presence of lingering bacteria in the         mouth.

  1. POOR SELF ESTEEM AND LOW CONFIDENCE

Children do not feel confident and avoid socialising which set back their social progress amongst peer.
